The Incomplete Cynic
xen0morph-deactivated20120122 asked: Suddenly "black" isn't a good enough term for your race anymore? I doubt you'd have any problem referencing my people as "the whites". Perhaps you'd prefer I used the term your own people (and especially rappers) refer to each other by so frequently.
Have a nice day.
Talk about missing the point. “Black” is fine. I’m no more African than most American whites are European.
The problem is the definite article, and the substantive use of an adjective. I do, in fact, have a problem talking about what “the whites” do.
I’m not a black, I’m a man who is black, or a black man. We are black people. You’re not a white, you’re a man (I assume) who is white. A white man. “The blacks” and “the whites” is not only dehumanizing, it demonstrates your total lack of perspective. Do you really believe that
- The only people gaming and becoming dependent on the welfare system are black?
- That all black people (“the blacks”) are both on welfare and content to stay there?
- That all black people do anything at all as a bloc?
If you want to go on using terms like that, be my guest…I’ll be impressed if it has any effect on the life of anyone other than you. I just had to check to see if you were serious. I guess you were.
