The Incomplete Cynic
I’m signing on to my first cause: “Save the baby humans.”
simplyjailbait asked: Are you for or against abortion?
Is anyone really for abortion? I’d be sincerely worried about someone who wasn’t just for abortion rights, but for abortion itself.
No, I’m against abortion, and I’m against the legality of abortion. I sense you’ll want more…
The simple answer is that a zygote, an embryo, and a fetus are all human, and alive. killing any one of them intentionally is wrong.
Lots of liberals and progressives like to insult pro-lifers by saying their interest in abortion is just hang-ups about sex. Well, for me it’s not a hang-up, but it is about sex.
At least 99% of aborted pregnancies are the result of consensual sex. That’s where the responsibility begins. It’s pretty simple, if you choose to have sex, you choose to open yourself up to the possibility pregnancy. All things being equal, choosing abortion is choosing to abandon your responsibility…it’s an immature decision.
The president has used the phrase “reproductive rights”, suggesting that abortion is a “right” that exists that pro-life leadership is trying to take away. But there’s no right to abortion; it’s actually a violation of the child’s right to life.
I feel safe saying that we all feel deep sympathy for the victims of rape and sexual assault, who have to face a lot of difficult decisions and emotions, and most of us are at least willing to talk when complications threaten the life of the mother. But what we’re talking about 93% of the time - abortion of economic or social reasons - is morally reprehensible.
If you want that badly to avoid having a child, don’t have sex. Otherwise you ought to take responsibility for your decisions, rather than end a life to avoid difficult consequences.
*by “you” I meant the generic everyman/everywoman, not you specifically, of course.
I’ll never understand the line of argument implied when someone responds to a pro-lifer, “What about rape or incest?” This is like saying, “It’s not wrong to stab people…what about rape or incest?”
Would anyone be so logically deficient as to conclude that it’s okay to stab people any time you choose, because we don’t want to restrict access to stabbing, incase someone is being raped? I feel safe in saying no. This is a silly, illogical, and frankly moronic approach that is beneath the intellectual abilities of my friends who have used it.
- It’s beside the point - It has nothing to do with the desire for open access to abortion, aka “abortion on demand.”
- Almost no abortions are the result of rape or incest - I’ve seen numbers reporting 0.1-1% of abortions are the result of rape. That means that at least 99% of abortions are the result of consensual sex. Women who did the deed, then decided the consequences would be inconvenient.
- Whose callous here? Is it more inconsiderate to (a) ask a few thousand victimized women to protect the rights of the child - their child - growing inside them, or (b) allow over a million women to kill a growing and defenseless human being, because they don’t want their lives to change. Both choices suck, but it’s pretty clear which one sucks more.
I don’t care if the fetus has awareness, or can feel pain. It’s alive. It’s alive and it is not part of its mother’s body. It’s not a goiter or a mole or a tumor. We’re talking about a person. And that person deserves the same respect and dignity as any other.
It’s amazing to me that we can place a child’s worth so fully in the hands of its mother. Are you really willing to say that if a mom doesn’t want her child, she’s allowed to kill it? That’s a dangerous road.
